BMW 2002 Dashboard Cover

• BMW 2002 (1968–1976)

• Direct Overlay Application: The cover is engineered to mold perfectly over the original dashboard framework, requiring zero cutting or major alterations to the underlying structure.

• In-Car or Out-of-Car Install: The flexible, thin-gauge plastic allows for a "windshield-in" installation, meaning you can slip it into place without removing the glass. For an even easier fit, it can be installed while the instrument cluster or windshield is removed.

• Seamless Component Fitment: Despite adding a layer over the factory dash, the cover is thin enough that the instrument cluster slides back into place effortlessly without binding or requiring trimming.

• Adhesive-Bonded: The cover relies on standard silicone adhesive to create a permanent, rattle-free bond to the original vinyl substrate.

• Pre-Treat and Repaint: The factory black finish on the cover can be sensitive to harsh chemicals. For maximum durability and a deep, UV-resistant look, strip the factory coating and repaint the cover with a high-quality automotive interior paint before gluing it down.

• Avoid Alcohol Cleaners: Do not use rubbing alcohol or harsh solvents to clean the raw cover out of the box, as it will dissolve the top coat. Stick to mild soap and water for prep.

• Clean Dash Clutter: Ensure the original cracked dashboard is free of loose debris, oils, and silicone protectants (like Armor All) so the new adhesive can form a strong, permanent bond.

TOOLS REQUIRED: Ammonia type window cleaner, 100% silicone RTV adhesive, clean rag, fine grit sandpaper, masking tape and a single edge razor blade.

CLEANING AND PREPARING YOUR OLD DASHBOARD

• Prefit your new dash cover to make sure you have the correct model and fit.
• If your dashboard is cracked or has high spots, use a razor blade or sandpaper to trim the raised areas.
• Lightly sand the old dashboard and the underside of the new dashtop.
• Thoroughly clean the old dashboard and the underside of the new dashtop with ammonia type window cleaner. This should remove any oils or preservatives that have built up over the years.
• Recheck the fit of your new cover by placing it over the clean dashboard. Old dashboards sometimes expand over the years, so you may have to do some trimming to achieve the best fit.
• In some cases you might have to remove speaker grids and defroster vents.
• After your dash cover fits properly, prepare the silicone adhesive. Place the tube of silicone adhesive in a cup of hot water. This will soften it and make it flow easier.
• Apply the adhesive to the underside of the new cover around the perimeters of air vents, radio speaker openings, climate sensors and outer edge.
• The adhesive “bead” should be about the size of a pencil.
• DO NOT put adhesive closer than ½" from the edge.
• DO NOT put adhesive in the center of the dash cover, as it will not allow the dash cover to expand and contract in the hot and cold weather.
• Remember less adhesive is better.
• Place the cover over the original dash. You may need to wedge heavy objects between the dash and windshield, or use masking tape, cardboard wedges, or bungi cords to secure your dash cover.
• It will take 2 to 4 hours for your adhesive to setup.
